I am a trainee clinical psychologist at the Oxford Institute of Clinical Psychology Training & Research. For my thesis project I am carrying out a feasibility study of a new intervention we have developed. The intervention is targeted at people from minority ethnic backgrounds who are feeling detached from their ethnic identity and experiencing low mood. Research shows us that migration sets in motion processes that deeply affect people and their identities, which can in turn impact psychological wellbeing. The migration map intervention aims to provide people from minority ethnic backgrounds with an opportunity to explore their migration histories through a geographical map. It is theorised that a visual representation of their migration journey will be a valuable tool to help express complex concepts and allow individuals to explore links between the migration experience and their current life. The intervention will consist of three sessions: assessment and engagement session, migration map and formulation session, and ending session.
We are looking for people from minority ethnic backgrounds, preferably with experience of lived mental health difficulties to help develop and refine the migration map intervention. We would also like help with developing measures to evaluate the acceptability and effectiveness of the intervention. The measures have been selected, we would like feedback on their suitability for the project and whether anything else needs adding.
