Sub-theme 5: Imaging in multi-system disease and multi-morbidity

Led by Professor Stefan Neubauer

We are using detailed MRI data about multiple organs, specifically the heart, liver and brain, derived from up to 100,000 participants of the UK Biobank. We expect that this information can be used to predict the risk of major clinical events – such as heart attack or stroke – with greater accuracy than models that do not use imaging or only focus on one organ.

We are continuing to deliver multi-organ imaging in ongoing and future national COVID-19 studies, building on our imaging leadership in the national PHOSP-COVID study and the C-MORE study, led by Professor Betty Raman and Dr Liz Tunnicliffe. We are conducting an array of studies evaluating new treatments for long COVID.
