NIHR Oxford BRC Preparatory Award for a Research Career (PARC) Programme

The NIHR Oxford Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) is making funds available to support nurses, midwives, allied health professionals, healthcare scientists, pharmacy staff and psychologist (NMAHPPs) to advance their research careers.

Programme Overview

The funding will be provided to cover salary costs for up to two months part-time, usually 0.5FTE. The award will take place between February and March 2025. It is expected that you will continue a proportion of your clinical role during the award.

The time may be used to explore and develop your clinical academic pathway and will offer personal and professional development to enhance your research portfolio. The goal is to help you develop a competitive application for further funding opportunities, for example, INSIGHT research master’s programme, Predoctoral Clinical and Practitioner Academic Fellowship (PCAF), Doctoral Clinical and Practitioner Academic Fellowship (DCAF) or post-doctoral Advanced Fellowship (AF) or Advanced Clinical and Practitioner Academic Fellowship (ACAF) awards.

We are offering up to 10 awards. This opportunity is open to anyone working within the Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire West Integrated Care System (BOB ICS).

What You’ll Gain

  • Research Mentorship: Provided by NIHR Senior Research Leaders for Nursing and Midwifery in OUH.
  • Peer Support and Workshops: Participate in taught workshops and peer networking opportunities to build essential research skills such as good application writing, developing your training plan, data management, analysis and writing for publication.
  • Pathway to Success: Understand the requirements for a successful National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) award application.

What the Award Includes

  • Funding to support 0.5 FTE (part-time) for two months. This will give you time for research activities such as developing your funding application, building your research team links, data analysis, patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE), publication writing or generating data for applications.
  • A training bursary to cover research-related expenses or training fees.
