NIHR BRC Oxford Pre-application Programme

This scheme is currently closed to applications

Unlock Your Future in Clinical Research

The NIHR Biomedical Research Centre: Oxford (BRC) is making funds available to support the career development of healthcare professionals with little or no dedicated research time or research experience. We are keen to support clinicians (e.g. nurses, midwives, allied health professionals, pharmacists, psychologists, clinical scientists and resident doctors) who are early in their research journey and are employed by OUH and/or the University of Oxford.

Programme Overview

The purpose of this award is to have funded time to develop a competitive application for a fellowship award or a grant which will develop you and enhance your research career alongside your clinical duties. You will be expected to submit a research fellowship or grant application within six months of the award being completed.

You will get support in writing your application from your Divisional Research Lead or an academic supervisor/mentor on your training pathway.

Funding will be provided to cover salary costs for up to six months part-time, 0.2FTE/x2 PAs. The award will take place between April and September 2026. It is expected that you will continue in your clinical role during the award.

You must have support from your line manager for you to be released from 0.2/x2PA time in your working week.

We are offering up to five awards.

Ready to take the next step in your research journey? Apply for the Pre-application Programme today and begin your path to becoming a clinical academic leader!

Apply here: https://forms.office.com/e/m6Tk6wBwfw

Closing date for applications is Wednesday 17 Dec 2025

Interviews will be held in January. Applicants will be asked to describe their career plans and how they will use this award to further their research career.
