NIHR-British Heart Foundation Cardiovascular Partnership

The NIHR-BHF Cardiovascular Partnership provides a platform for the development of large-scale collaborations between researchers funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) and the British Heart Foundation (BHF). A collaboration with the Chief Scientist Office (CSO) in Scotland has enabled formal representation of four Scottish cardiovascular centres within the Partnership.

The ultimate goal of this initiative is to catalyse progress in cardiovascular research and translate scientific discoveries into benefits for people affected by heart and circulatory diseases.

The NIHR-BHF Cardiovascular Partnership brings together NIHR infrastructure with BHF investment through its Professors and Centres.

The Partnership is led by Chair Professor Keith Channon who is the BHF Field Marshal Earl Alexander Chair of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Oxford and Deputy Chair Professor Chris Miller from the University of Manchester. Dr Simon Fisher is the Partnership Manager.

The Partnership Chair, Deputy and Manager work with the Partnership’s Steering Group to develop the Partnership’s activities. The Steering Group is composed of representatives from member NIHR Biomedical Research Centres (BRCs), NIHR Clinical Research Facilities (CRFs), BHF Centres of Research Excellence (CREs), BHF Accelerators, Centres with BHF Professors and Scottish Cardiovascular Centres with CSO funding. The Steering Group also includes patient representatives, together with funder representatives from the NIHR and the BHF.
