The BRC has a strong track record in evaluating childhood vaccines, and, since it was created in 2007, has provided key data that underpins the vaccines in the NHS’s immunisation schedule, as well as global immunisation policy.
We are focusing on vaccines that are priorities for the NHS, including vaccines and monoclonals for RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus, a common respiratory infection that can be serious for very young children). RSV is a major cause of winter pressures in the health service and the leading cause of hospitalisation in infancy.
This sub-theme is also building evidence on vaccines for neonatal meningitis and CMV (Cytomegalovirus, a usually harmless virus that can cause problems in babies if contracted during pregnancy.
We are also leading the evaluation of COVID-19 vaccines for adolescents and children and are testing new approaches in this age group.
