Ten researchers receive Oxford BRC training bursaries

Ten Oxford BRC-affiliated research staff have been awarded bursaries to support their training and career development.

The BRC research training bursary scheme – worth up to £3,500 – provides funding for short courses or modules which will provide training and expertise in research skills or research management. Where appropriate, such modules may be used towards a master’s degree.

This year a total of £15,500 has been awarded to the following recipients:

  • Aden Kwok, a data manager/programmer in Translational Data Science, will be doing a Certificate in Research Management at the Association of Research Managers and Administrators           
  • Arran Babbs, a clinical trials manager in the Cancer theme, will be taking the “Planning and Managing Clinical Trials” course at Oxford Brookes University
  • Ben Weedon, a physiotherapist in the Musculoskeletal Theme, will be doing a ‘Statistics for Clinical Trials’ course at Continuing Education, Oxford University
  • Josephine Edens and Lauren Quinn, both research nurses in the Neurology Theme, will be undertaking the ‘Planning and Managing Clinical Trials’ course at Oxford Brookes
  • Francesca Basile, a medical trainee from the Respiratory Theme, will be doing a ‘Qualitative Methods in Global Infectious Diseases Research’ course in Montreal
  • Amelia Bajer a research assistant in the Vaccines Theme, will be taking the ‘Vaccinology for Public Health and Clinical Practice’ course at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and Hong Kong University
  • Beatrice Francis, a research assistant in the Vaccines Theme, will be doing the ‘R for data science and genomics’ at Oxford University
  • Elizabeth Stafford, a research nurse manager in the Vaccines Theme, will be doing a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Research at Newcastle University
  • Luisa Saldana Ortega, a research nurse in the Vaccines Theme, will be doing the ‘Clinical Trial Management’ course at Continuing Education, Oxford University
