On March 8th, Oxford Centre for Diabetes Endocrinology & Metabolism (OCDEM) and the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre, Oxford hosted a visit for sixth form students from King Alfred School, Wantage.
The students met some of the OCDEM researchers including Professor Keith Frayn, who explored the topic of obesity research with them. There was a lively discussion with Dr Catriona Hilton and Dr Matt Neville who talked to the students about how they got into their current roles and the students asked them for advice about future career choices.
They also met a Diabetes Specialist Nurse who gave them the opportunity to get hands on with some insulin pumps that are used by people with type 1 diabetes.
The programme also included a tour of the OCDEM laboratories, the Clinical Research Unit and the DWRF Islet Isolation Facility.
