This month, ScienceWatch.com presents a listing of the top 20 institutions which, according to our Special Topic on Meningitis, attracted the highest total citations to their papers published on the topic in Thomson Reuters-indexed journals.
These institutions are the top 20 ranked by total cites out of a pool of 9,661 institutions publishing on this topic. The resulting list of institutions includes 11 US-based organizations: 10 universities and one government agency. There are four European institutions, three UK-based universities and one UK-based hospital, and one Canadian government agency.
The top-ranked institution by total cites is the University of Oxford, with 357 papers cited a total of 9,548 times. Highly cited research coming out of Oxford includes complete genome sequence studies, vaccine candidates, epidemiology, and serogroup studies. Four authors in our analysis hail from Oxford: Martin Maiden, Richard Moxon, Derek Hood, and Andrew Pollard.
