Four Hospitals, One Trust, One Vision
Sir Jonathan Michael, Chief Executive of the newly created Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust marked the merger between the former Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre and the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trusts with a tour around the four hospital sites on Tuesday, 1 November. He talked about the Trust’s aspirations and future direction.
The integrated Trust will run the county’s four teaching hospitals – the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Horton General, John Radcliffe and Churchill hospitals. The different hospital sites will retain their current names and identities.
In addition, a joint working agreement with the University of Oxford will formally come into effect at the point of merger – a strategic alliance supporting a health sciences partnership that will integrate patient care, teaching and medical research to deliver the best in clinical treatment.
Sir Jonathan Michael commented, “Through our continued collaboration with our local universities, our GP commissioners and social care partners, we aim to deliver measurably better outcomes for our patients through innovation and excellence.”
Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust will now begin the process to become a Foundation Trust in 2013.
