FAQs about the Diversity in Research Group application

Why should members have a link to a voluntary organisation, patient charity or community group?

People who join the Diversity in Research Group should have an existing relationship with a voluntary organisation, health charity or community group. This will help researchers to build strong, trusting relationships with the groups and make research more inclusive.

By “community” we mean a group of people joined together by a common interest, characteristics or experience (Kings Fund, definition).

How will the information provided on this form be used?

The responses to the questions will help us select a diverse membership for the group and be more inclusive.

The information you provide will enable us to:

  1. Select new members for the Diversity in Research Group.
  2. Help us understand who we are reaching.
  3. Help us address any gaps and biases in who we are including in health research.

How is the information kept confidential?

Your information will be protected under the GDPR 2018 rules of the Data Protection Act. Following the recruitment process it will be destroyed.

What will you be doing as a member of the Diversity in Research Group?

  • You will work with other group members to support researchers to make their research more relevant to diverse communities.
  • You will help researchers understand what is important to people from different backgrounds.
