I joined the Oxford BRC in 2021, in the new role of Training and Inclusion Manager in Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement.
My role is to offer training and development support to BRC researchers to involve patients and the public in their research studies from start to finish. The inclusion aspect of my role is about actively seeking and including public and patients in research and offering a warm welcome and support.
A smaller part of my role is to help develop training and development for PPI colleagues nationally. I work very closely with a network PPI leads across the University of Oxford and with other BRCs in England, to develop and deliver researcher training. This means there is always someone out there who can help! I also work with public contributors to develop and deliver training for both researchers and public contributors, which brings the public perspective and experience right into the heart of my work.
I qualified as executive coach with the Institute of Leadership and Management in 2022, and I am registered with the NHS Southeast Leadership Academy. This was a long-held ambition and something I am delighted to have achieved and I enjoy enormously.
Alongside my BRC role, I work on other NIHR-funded studies in social care research, as a PPI lead, co-author and co-researcher. I also volunteer for a local charity which provides support and training in learning disability to health professionals and family carers.
Before joining the BRC, my career was in strategic cultural development, before going on to be a founder member of a community interest consultancy, specialising in arts and culture. I led on evaluating public engagement projects which had received public funding. I hold degrees from the University of Cambridge, Kings College London and Liverpool and I have a diploma in Management Studies.
