This is a rare opportunity to be able to discuss the use of imaging such as CT scans and potentially add a little influence into imaging guidance in the UK.
We are reviewing the risks to the heart from imaging of the heart using radiation, for example CT scans. Some patients receive lots of imaging as part of their care. This has real benefits as it is one of the reasons why medical care has advanced so much. As patients can live longer with ever more complex conditions, the amount of imaging increases. As the amount of imaging increases, so does the risk of unwanted effects from that imaging. This is why it is important to review these risks to ensure that the care delivered is the best possible.
We have found some risks that are greater than we previously understood. While we can look at the numbers scientifically and in the clinical context, we would like to invite contributors to discuss and explore the relevance of these risks to them, friends and family, or the population in general, in order to shape the discussion and future recommendations arising from the project.
Who are we looking for?
We are seeking contributors who:
• Are comfortable discussing risks from medical interventions (not in a gory way!)
• Can provide some real world perspective on our results
• Are happy to discuss the relevance of the results and explore communication methods.
If you feel you can contribute, please email Debbie Saunders explaining how your life experience can enable you to discuss radiation risks. The deadline to respond is 22 July 2026.
What is the time commitment?
We would like to chat either individually or as a group depending on individual preference for a single 30–60 minute session.
This could be on Teams/Zoom or via an email conversation.
The time can be flexible – during daytime or evenings.
Reimbursement
£27.50/hour + £5 towards internet costs if online.
