Oxford is highly esteemed in both scientific underpinning and clinical practice of transplantation and has the potential to be an internationally pre-eminent transplant centre. The Oxford Transplant Institute integrates the fragmented translational and clinical groups into an effective organisation.

The institute will be a virtual centre comprising clinicians and scientists with a shared interest in the many facets of translational science that will enable the transplantation of increasingly high-risk donor organs whilst achieving better outcomes in patient care.

The Transplantation Working Group forms the basis for the Scientific Steering Group of the Oxford Transplant Institute. The Steering Group will consult widely within the Oxford transplant community and ensure that all stakeholder groups are properly represented.

The Working Group has three key elements of focus to develop the Oxford Transplant Institute: Infrastructure, biobanking and transplant electronic patient register.
