About the pump-priming scheme
A goal of both the Oxford and Sheffield BRCs is to support early career researchers to conduct translational and experimental research projects. Exploiting the many areas of shared interest between the Oxford and Sheffield BRCs in vaccine research, this pump-priming scheme has been developed to support collaborative projects that bring together researchers aligned with the Life-saving Vaccines theme in Oxford and the Sheffield Infection and Immunity theme. Particular areas of shared interest include malaria, typhoid and respiratory infections, human challenge studies, applied immunology, and vaccines in underserved communities. Additional funding is also available for projects with Oxford investigators only.
Eligibility and how to apply
The scheme is now open for early career researchers (for example PhD student, post-doctoral researcher and academic clinical lecturer) to apply.
Proposals will be assessed according to the following criteria:
- Is the proposed project within the scope of NIHR BRC funding (supporting innovate early translational and experimental medicine research)? For collaborative projects is the proposal aligned with an area of shared interest between the Oxford and Sheffield BRCs? For Oxford-only projects does the proposal fit within one of the five vaccines theme subthemes or areas of underpinning expertise?
- Is the proposed project original and likely to generate novel insights?
- Is the project plan realistic with measurable deliverables? Are risks suitably addressed?
- Is the project likely to generate findings which could underpin a future expansion of the project or a new line of enquiry?
