PPI Researcher Guidance

The PPI Researcher Guidance is comprehensive and provides up to date information on most aspects of PPIE to help researchers involve patients and members of the public in their research.  PPIE leads in Oxford BRC, the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration and Primary Health Care Sciences Department developed the guidance.

NIHR Guidance – Supporting patient and public involvement in research

NIHR has re-launched key resources and guidance that support patient and public involvement in health and social care research. The resources help patients and the public learn more about the benefits of involvement and how to get involved. The resources also provide advice for researchers and professionals on involving patients and the public in their research projects.

The information on these pages is to help researchers across the OBRC themes to integrate PPI in all stages of their research. PPI ensures that the patient voice is heard and improves research.

The NIHR defines public involvement in research as, “research being carried out ‘with’ or ‘by’ members of the public rather than ‘to’, ‘about’ or ‘for’ them.  It is an active partnership between patients, carers and members of the public with researchers that influences and shapes research”. (From NIHR Briefing Notes).

“I would like to strongly encourage all researchers to use the resources on these pages and please do contact Rachel or Angeli for advice and support
